We are delighted to warmly invite you to attend this year's Argyll Convention. It is one of many Conventions held across the UK, mainly in the summer months. We are now in our 12th year.
The dates are Monday 3rd to Wednesday 5th August inclusive, and the venue is again the Corran Halls in Oban.
As usual, there is no charge (donations welcome) or registration, and you can turn up without booking to as many sessions as you like. You will be made very welcome.
This is a unique local opportunity to meet Christians or to find out more about Christianity. It is not a theological conference or a gathering for clergy but aimed at the Christian-in-the-pew or non-Christian 'enquirer' and does not assume any particular level of knowledge of the Bible!
This year we will be making a slight change to the format with Bible Readings on the Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday mornings and Monday and Tuesday evenings.
We always try to involve local churches and the wider community so, this year we have Paul Mallard coming to give the main talks in the morning sessions (10am to 12 noon) on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Wesley Brewer will be coming to give the main talks in the evening sessions (7.30pm to 9pm) on Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday afternoon will run from 2 - 4 pm and will be a 'Messy Church' event for young children and their families. Wednesday evening will be called 'Ignite Argyll', majoring on a time of worship and praise with ministers from the local churches taking part.
Paul Mallard is a retired Baptist minister who is currently Director for the West Midlands of the Fellowship of Evangelical Churches (FIEC) and chair of the FIEC’s Theology Team, helping churches and leaders to think through the key theological challenges facing us in 21st Century Britain.
Wesley Brewer from the Faith Mission is currently based in Penrith in the Anglo-Scottish Border District. His main responsibility is evangelism around the area, through preaching, one to one evangelism and youth meetings.
We will have Mission Speakers from The Mission to Seafarers Scotland, Blythswood Care and Prospects Across Scotland. Gospel Literature Outreach will provide a bookstall with a wide range of Christian books for all ages young and old, as well as gifts and stationery items. They will also provide updates on Christian books and recommendations. There will be a Praise band to lead our worship.
A full programme will be included in future mailshots and will appear on our website, www.argyllconvention.org. Flyers and posters for sharing the event more widely will be sent in due course on email.
